Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct

Charlotte Atheists & Agnostics (CAA) is dedicated to providing a safe, harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, race, national origin, or age. We expect participants to follow this code of conduct at all events.

CAA does not condone illegal activities during their events. This includes illegal substances or actions.

You are encouraged to ask for unequivocal consent for all activities during events. Yes means yes; no means no; and maybe means no. Please take no for an answer for any request or activity. No touching others without permission. There are people who do not like to be touched and will respect and like you more if you respect their personal space. Furthermore, consent can be withdrawn at any time after it has been initially given.

A wide diversity of people attend CAA events representing different sexualities, genders, races, ethnicities, abilities, ages, and beliefs. Blatant instances of racism, sexism, homophobia, or other stereotyping or harmful behaviors will not be tolerated

Many events are held on private property, and private property must be respected. Attendees are expected to explicitly follow any and all rules of the host(s) including any posted signage. Furthermore, attendees are expected to limit themselves to areas of the property to which they have explicit permission to be in. Likewise, property (including motor vehicles) and personal items of the host and attendees should be considered with the same respect. Please ask and obtain explicit consent before touching, opening, or entering any and all property and personal items.

This group welcomes families with children to many of our events. We expect all members to treat families with courtesy and respect. Parents or guardians are responsible for their children and their children’s behavior. During events, disruptive children or family members are expected to be removed. Parents and guardians should also be aware that while we have specifically child-friendly events, many of our events are not suitable for children in content, language, or activities, and discretion is advised. At any event designated in the event description as child-friendly, we expect all attendees to remain sober and refrain from excessive profanity and sexually explicit conversations.

CAA does not tolerate harassment of members, guests, servers, volunteers or speakers of any kind. Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, and/or religion as well as nudity or sharing sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, unwelcome photography or video recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.

Attendees asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. Attendees violating this policy may face disciplinary actions up to and including being expelled from events (without a refund, if applicable) and/or complete removal from CAA at the discretion of board members.

If anyone witnesses events or conversation which appear in violation of these policies, or have concerns or feel uncomfortable, please notify an Officer of CAA or a Social Committee member immediately.
